User Notes

In Davar4, you can create user notes, synchronised with book references. Most often, Bible notes will be created. But it is possible to create notes synchronised with any book, e.g. Pirkei Avot, Biblical apocrypha, etc.

User notes are created in SQLite3 database as a "records". You can add, edit and delete records in database. After long work with notes, database file can be compacted to save space on disk.

First step - creation of new module with user notes

If you do not have user notes module or you want to create new notes file, use menu commands: Notes | Create new note...

Following dialog is displayed, default values are pre-populated:

Filename and full path to file: In secon edit field, you can enter filename of notes, extension is .not. If the first field, you see full path to new file. Path is fixed to data directory (as all other modules) and you cannot change it.

Module abbreviation: As all other modules, notes have short abbreviation. This text string should be unique, e.g. not used by other modules.

Title: short description of module

Info: here a long description of module can be inserted.

Copyright: Copyrigt info about module. If it is possible, create modules which can be freely shared with other users, to help understand and grow in knowledge of Scriptures.

URL: Here you can insert URL of module or contact to author. In case of future updates of module, people will be able to get latest version.

Language and sublanguage for notes: Select language according the main language of notes.

Type of notes: If you intend to write notes to Bible, select Bible notes. In case you want to write notes to some book module which has different books than complete Bible (e.g. apocrypha), use Notes for selected module - select this module from pull down menu (must be already open).

Use tags in notes: Check if your notes will not be only plain text notes and you want to use tags, e.g. Bible references, Strong#, Greek and Hebrew etc.

Jump inside module references: You can enable to jump into different note record when double click to reference tag.

When you filled all parts, press OK button to create new note module. This new module will be opened in new window with first (empty) record created.

Second step - edit user notes

Each note window has also this two buttons:

Add / Edit note record. When this button is pressed, you can add or modify existing note in two windowed editor.

Synchronization switch.

When this button is pressed (ON), note window display only existing (inserted) notes.

When this button is released (OFF), note window display also empty records. This button must be released to add new notes.

After button Add/Edit note is pressed, following two - windowed editor is displayed:

Upper part is preview area, where you see resulting user note. Bottom part is edit area, where you can edit text of your note. Below edit window, there are buttons for insertion of most important tags:

Reference: when pressed, dialog for insertion of reference or reference range is displayed.

PDF reference: when pressed, small dialog for insertion of PDF reference (filename, page# and page offset) is displayed.

Filename: here you enter name of pdf file, which is placed in your \data\ folder.

Page offset: value is difference between page number in PDF file ind in original (paper) book numbering.

Input page number in book for reference: here insert number of page in original (paper) book for synchronization.

When PDF reference dialog is open next time, cursor focus will be set to input page number and rest of values will be kept for quick insertion.

URL: when pressed, small dialog for insertion of URL will be displayed. You can specify URL. Doubleclick to this reference in your note will start defauld internet browser, opened on this homepage.

Hebrew, Greek: click to this buttons insert paired tag for Hebrew or Greek in actual edit position. Then you can type by keyboard Hebrew or Greek text or use table of characters.

Bold, Italic, Uppercase: click to this buttons insert paired tag for selected formatting in actual edit position. You can type by keyboard text into tag.

Hebrew, Greek Strong: click to this buttons insert paired tag for Hebrew or Greek Strong# - you can then type numeric value by keyboard.

Hebrew, Greek gematria: same as Strong#, but inserted is tag for gematrical value and you can then type numeric value by keyboard.

Show character table: when checked, table for Hebrew/Greek characters is displayed together with note editor.

Font+, Font-: buttons for change size of font in editor window

Delete: delete of actual note and close editor window.

Refresh preview: when button is pressed, preview area is updated according actual content of edit area. Except manual refresh, you can force refresh after space, after paragraph and after predefined time interval.

When you completed editation of your note, press OK button to update module database.
